Post-Tour Happenings

August 28, 2012 – 11:28 am

Don’t think you are getting through with the Tour de Troit, grabbing a banana and jumping in your car. No way, no how! We invite everyone to pull up a chair or some lawn and hang out in Roosevelt Park with us. We’ve got quality entertainment, food and drink on tap for you!

We’ve partnered with our Corktown neighbor, PJ’s Lager House, to bring you some fantastic local music.

Up at 11 a.m. will be Lac La Belle, an acoustic duo that specializes in re-workings of Americana classics as well original material that juxtaposes country sounds with a Rust Belt aesthetic. The group features the hypnotic vocals of Jenny Knaggs and the talented picking of Nick Shillace, both of whom are veterans of the Detroit music scene.

At noon, we’ll turn the stage over to The Dale Robertson Blues Band for some foot-stompin’ tunes from a harmonica master and his crew!

At 1 p.m., the aptly-named Kickstand Band will take the stage! Expect some fun rock ‘n’ roll from this Detroit-based trio.

Between sets, we’ll hear some tunes from Rock ‘N’ Roll Scientist, best-known for his weekend residence at the Garden Bowl. The mix will be eclectic, we know that much!

Now onto the grub! If this is your first Tour de Troit, you might be surprised at how much food you get. All registrants get two food tickets good for a plate each from one of numerous local restaurants: Slow’s Bar BQ (chili!), Paul’s Pizza, Gonellas Subs, Honeybee Market (tamales!), Organaman (veggie burritos!) and one more delicious option that we are still confirming.

Thirsty? We gotcha covered. Our beverage partners, MillKing It Productions — a Royal Oak-based craft brewery — and Great Lakes Bear & Wine will be on hand. Not feeling in the mood to imbibe? Vitamin Water and Smart Water will be available as well. All riders get two drink tickets.

Other happenings includes sponsor booths — many of whom will have give-aways — and a “fauxtobooth” from photographer Dave Lewinski! Check out the snaps from 2011 and 2010 — it’s a super-fun way to document your triumph over the streets of Detroit! Last but not least, our friends at Re:New Detroit will be offering free massage!

So there you have it, folks, a run-down of all the shenanigans we have planned for you after you ride!

  2. I came last year and it was excellent. It’s not something you see so large be affordable AND be super organized.

I think my only suggestion was for the food vendors. They all had signs with their name, BUT the signage didn’t say what they actually had to eat. So you to had cut to the front of the line to see (for example) what “Slow’s Bar BQ” was actually serving (which was delicious chili) and then get back in the line. If you didn’t do that for all the lines, you didn’t know what the options were.

Since you only had two food tickets, it would have been better to see before getting into the line.

  3. Hi Gary,
Thanks for the kind words. The food options are spelled out in your informational packet. Hope this helps and see you in a few weeks!

  5. This sounds awesome! A few questions though… what time can you expect the bike ride (regular 25-30mile option) to end? And what time would the “post tour happenings” start/end? Also, will food/drinks be available for purchase for friends/family who do not do the bike ride? Thanks!

  6. Lindsay,

That all depends on how fast you ride! We expect people to show up at the park anywhere from 11 a.m. to after noon. We do not sell any food or drink; that is an additional permitting process that we do not undertake. Selling food and beer vs. it being included in a ticket price are different animals entirely.

    Thanks!

  7. I did the metric century last year and had an awesome time! My only complaint was that by the time we got back, the beer line was extremely long. We made it to the front, only to find out that they had run out of Milking It beer and we ended up with Bud Light. Not that I’m complaining about cheap(free) beer, but I was really looking forward to the Milking It beer and was a little disappointed when I finally got to the front of the line. Is there any plan to save some for the metric century riders this year?

  8. Hi Cindie! So the plan this year is to have more than enough beer and not run out of MillKing It at all! We try to do better every year. See you in a few weeks!
