We are happy to announce that the 2009 Tour de Troit raised almost $40,000 for the Corktown-Mexicantown Greenlink, bringing the grand total of funds raised to approximately $65,000. There is a good possibility that part of the bikelane system will be built in time for the next Tour de Troit, which is scheduled for September 25, 2010.

Cycling can save Michigan

The Michigan Municipal League has an article up about promoting cycling with some commentary and pics of the TdT.

Unfortunately all too often communities and departments of transportation are slow to enact ordinances and policies that encourage, or the very least support, non-motorized transportation. Even worse, drivers’ ambivalence to the rights of cyclists to use roadways, can create a dangerous and all too often deadly environment for non-motorized transportation.

That is why it was so great to see some 2000 cyclists come out to the Motor City on a Saturday morning for the 8th annual Tour De Troit.

If you missed the 6 p.m. deadline for pre-registration, there are 300 tickets available onsite. The registration line opens at 8 a.m. and we will close the line when it reaches 300 people. No exceptions.

We are super-excited about this year’s ride, and from the looks of everyone that’s made it to packet pickup so far, our riders are as well! We will see you all at Roosevelt Park in the AM.

Special note to procrastinators: On-line registration shuts down at 6 p.m. We will post the number of on-site registrations we will take this evening.
