Enjoy a pleasant pedal from the Detroit River to Eight Mile and back along the Conner Creek Greenway (CCG), nine miles of cycling infrastructure that traces the original Conner Creek and links people, parks, green spaces, neighborhoods, schools and shops. Five miles are complete; funds raised at Cycle into Spring! will support programming and the development of the final four miles of the greenway.

The 20-mile ride will begin at 9 a.m. and is police-escorted as well as sweeper and SAG-supported. Sites along the way include Coleman A. Young International Airport, Mt. Olivet Cemetery, the Milbank Trail, the Chrysler Jefferson North Assembly Plant and Chandler Park.

A t-shirt is included with all pre-registrations. Refreshments provided at rest stop.

An optional bar-b-q lunch catered by Slows To Go is available after the ride.

Cycle Into Spring costs $25 or $35 with lunch. Non-riders are able to pre-register for just lunch for $15. Online registration closes May 11. Day-of ride registration is available for $35; t-shirt not guaranteed. Residents of GGC-adjacent zip codes (48213, 48214, 48215, 48205, and 48234) can register day-of for $25!

Helmets are mandatory for this ride.

The 2012 Cycle Into Spring, the inaugural such event, attracted almost 200 riders and raised over $2,000 for the Conner Creek Greenway.

PARKING: There is ample street parking for the event, but also parking in several private lots and Wayne State lots close to the run start. There is absolutely NO PARKING along Canfield between Cass and 2nd. There is also no parking in the Traffic Jam Parking lot on Canfield.

City Bird and Nest will also host their fourth annual Fête du Nain Rouge on Thursday, March 21 and the Nain Rouge Warm-Up on Sunday, March 24. During the Fête, guests can shop the store’s selection of exclusive Nain Rouge-themed goods, make a mask to wear at the Marche, and enjoy refreshments. The Warm-Up will take place from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. the day of the march and guests can make their own Nain Rouge masks and enjoy hot refreshments, music from DJ Big Time America and free beads with every purchase. A portion of all proceeds will be donated to the Marche.

Nora housewares and gift shop will also be open late Thursday, March 21 for “La Fete Du Nain Rouge.” The event is part of Art Detroit Now’s Third Thursday event to showcase area artists once a month in local galleries and retailers. “La Fete Du Nain Rouge” will take place from 6-9 p.m. and feature artists “Smith Shop.”

Also on Thursday, March 21, the Peacock Room and Rodin are teaming up for the Avant Rouge – Costume Shopping & Dance Party — until midnight! More details at the FB event page.

Each spring, a group of merry Detroiters band together to welcome spring and to shoo away any bad juju that accumulated over the previous winter. This year’s Marche du Nain Rouge, as this occasion is known, will take place on Sunday, March 24.

This year, for the first time, there will be a Run du Nain Rouge to kick off the day’s festivities! The 5K will take off from Cass and Canfield at 11 a.m.

Registration is open here until March 20 for $35. Day-of registration will be available on-site for $45.

Packet Pick-up will be located at 441 West Canfield in the space soon to be home to Run Detroit, a new running retail store coming to Detroit this Spring. Pick-up opens at 9 a.m. and runs until the race start at 11 a.m.

TIMING: The Run du Nain Rouge will be B-Tag timed. Results will be posted at RunDetroit.com.

Preparez-vous! The top 16 finishers (top 8 male and top 8 female) will be rewarded with Nain Rouge merch from City Bird — and the slowest 10 will be punished with gifts selected by the Nain Rouge himself.

Over 900 runners are signed up! Although advanced registration is closed, there will be the opportunity to sign-up the day of the race. Keep reading for more information.

The 5K route winds through Hamtramck, highlighting the city that boasts “the world in 2 square miles.” A paczek and a beer served to each finisher! Na Zdrowie!

- Register here through Tuesday, FEBRUARY 5. A t-shirt is included with the cost of registration. Color varieties include paczki flavors of strawberry, apricot, blueberry and chocolate.
